The Argyle Downs Homestead Museum at Lake Argyle in the Kimberley offers an insight into the lives of the early pioneers in the Kimberley. You will learn about the Durack family's gruelling two year journey across the continent. Their struggles and marathon droving journeys were documented in a saga of pastoral life by Dame Mary Durack in her book Kings in Grass Castles. The museum, which is housed in the former home of the Durack family, was originally built in the 1880s and was dismantled and rebuilt stone by stone in its current location following the danger of flooding.
