Getting to the North West

 

Domestic Flights to Broome

Qantas operates direct flights to Broome from Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Direct flights to Perth operate daily.  But the other direct flights operate seasonally with Sydney flights departing on Tuesdays and Saturdays, Melbourne flights departing Saturdays and Sundays and Brisbane flights departing Thursdays and Sundays.  Connecting flights are available from all other capital cities. Virgin Blue operates direct flights to Broome from Adelaide and connecting flights from all other capital cities. 

Skywest and Airnorth provide connections between Broome, Kununurra and Darwin in the Northern Territory.  Airnorth also provides connections between Karratha and Port Hedland.

Flights from Perth

Qantas provides daily direct flights to Karratha, Port Hedland, Paraburdoo, Newman and Broome.  Airnorth offer direct weekly flights to Kununurra and Skywest provide direct flights to Kununurra, Broome and Port Hedland.  Virgin Blue offers daily direct flights to Broome, Karratha and Newman.  Air Australia operates direct flights to Derby five times a week.

Flights from Overseas

There are daily flights to Perth (Western Australia’s capital city) from major international hubs. From here you can connect to all major towns within Australia’s North West.  Skywest offers a weekly service from Denpasar in Bali to Port Hedland, with connections to Broome.

By Road from Perth

The Pilbara region is accessed from Perth via the North West Coastal Highway and the Great Northern Highway. Travel further north along the Great Northern Highway to Broome, the southern gateway to the Kimberley region. You can also follow the Warlu Way from Exmouth to Broome in the Kimberley.

A full range of rental vehicles, ranging from motor homes to four wheel drives, is available in Perth. Search for Perth-based vehicle hire companies.

By Road from the East Coast and Northern Territory

Kununurra is the eastern gateway to Australia’s North West and is accessed via the Victoria Highway which links with the Stuart Highway in the Northern Territory. The unsealed Tanami and Duncan Roads link Alice Springs, in central Australia, with Halls Creek in the Kimberley.

The Savannah Way is one of Australia's ultimate adventure drives, linking Cairns in Tropical North Queensland with Broome in the Kimberley, via the natural wonders of Katherine in the Northern Territory.

A full range of rental vehicles, ranging from motor homes to four-wheel drives, is available at most major towns and cities throughout Australia. Search for Australia-wide vehicle hire companies.

By Coach

The Kimberley and Pilbara regions are serviced by major coach operator, Greyhound Australia. They offer hop-on hop-off packages, allowing you to design your own itinerary. Contact a Visitor Centre for a timetable and booking assistance or visit the Greyhound Australia website.
