Museums

The museums of Australia’s North West take you on a fascinating journey back in time, with amazing collections of memorabilia and artefacts covering mining, pearling, the early pioneers and Indigenous culture.

For an insight into the lives of the North West’s pioneers, visit the Dalgety House Museum in Port Hedland, the Onslow Museum housed in the Old Goods Shed, the Old Gaol in Roebourne, the Broome Historical Society Museum, the Derby Wharfingers House Museum or learn about the Durack family at the Argyle Downs Homestead Museum.

Check out the local mining history at the Don Rhodes Mining Museum in Port Hedland, the Mining and Pastoral Museum at the Visitor Centre in Newman, or the Comet Gold Mine near Marble Bar.

See the History and culture section for more information about Indigenous history, explorers and pioneers, pearling and mining and natural history.
