The Pilbara is an ancient landscape with many natural wonders to discover. Two billion years of coursing water has created deep rocky gorges which led to peaceful plunge pools fed by permanent springs or seasonal waterfalls. Visit Karijini and Millstream-Chichester National Parks to take in spectacular scenery and follow the trails to discover the waterfalls and swimming holes below.
Please visit the Department of Parks and Wildlife’s website for more information on Karijini and Millstream-Chichester National Parks, including walk trail classifications and safety information.
The view from Joffre Gorge Lookout will allow you to see the beauty of the gorge before you descend on the walk trail towards the waterfall and swimming spot.
Fortescue Falls & Fern Pool
The only permanent waterfall in Karijini National Park, Fortescue Falls is a picturesque and popular spot for a swim. A short walk away, you’ll also find Fern Pool with its small twin waterfalls.
Hancock Gorge & Kermit’s Pool
A somewhat challenging walk (prepare for a ladder, water crossings, and the famous Spider Walk!) is rewarded with a refreshing dip in Kermit’s Pool, a small swimming hole nestled deep within the gorge.
Millstream Chichester - Python Pool
A short walk over uneven surfaces leads you to a permanent pool nestled beneath high cliffs which is fed by a seasonal waterfall.
Hamersley Gorge is a popular and accessible gorge for visitors to spend a couple of hours exploring the incredible rock formations and enjoying a swim in the cool waters. Walk as far as the Hamersley Waterfall, or allow some extra time for the gorge walk to "The Grotto".
Kalamina Gorge’s permanent pool and seasonal waterfall with draping ferns is just a short walk from the car park, making it the most accessible gorge in Karijini NP.
