Climate

The North West is a region of great contrast. Ranging in temperature from under five degrees centegrade to over 40 degrees centegrade in the course of a year, you will find that two distinct seasons in the region will offer vastly different holiday experiences to the traveller.
SUMMER SEASON - November to April

Summer in the northwest is a great time, there are less crowds, the days can be hot and the nights are balmy. Contrary to popular belief, the rain in the summer does not fall constantly; but in heavy and generally short downpours. The downpour might only last for a half-hour or so and this usually occurs late in the afternoon and evenings.

The build up creates the perfect environment for mind blowing lightning shows and spectacular sunsets, the water run off causes thundering waterfalls, fills billabongs and waterholes. Birdlife and wildlife abound. This is a great time to sit back  and watch as Mother Nature reigns supreme and refreshes the land.

Many tours operate year round although some attractions cannot be accessed due to closed roads and local flooding. As with any holiday, it's a matter of planning and getting expert advice from any one of the region's Visitor Centres.

WINTER SEASON  - May to November

Winter is traditionally the most popular time to visit. While the southern part of Australias chills down, in the north the days are generally fine, with temperatures ranging from mid to high 20's.  Humidity levels are almost non existent and the skies are a deep blue that stretches forever, with hardly a cloud to be seen.

The nights range from cool with fresh breezes on the coast while inland the wind off the desert can see temperatures plummet to near freezing. The skys are clear and it is an excellent time for stargazing and camping.

The fine warm days create the perfect opportunity for outdoor activites;  which become the highlight of the North West Winter holiday experience.
