Kununurra
Kununurra, in Western Australia (WA), is the eastern gateway to the Kimberley and the perfect base for your outback adventure. A pretty town located on the banks of Lake Kununurra and the Ord River, it was established in 1960 and is one of Western Australia’s youngest towns, but has quickly grown to become a hub for local industry and a host of great holiday experiences.
Take a scenic flight over some of the most spectacular landforms in the world. Set out on a four-wheel drive tour of the Kimberley and explore wilderness parks such as the World Heritage listed Purnululu National Park, home to the Bungle Bungle Range. Or join a local fishing tour and chase the big barramundi.
Cruising on Lake Argyle and the Ord River
A visit to Kununurra is not complete without taking a lake and river cruise. Lake Argyle is the biggest manmade lake in Australia, created by the major dam of the Ord Irrigation Project, it is large enough to be classed as an inland sea. A cruise on the lake and the wetlands around the mouth of the Ord River provides the opportunity to spot a wide variety of birds. Search the list of Kununurra tours.
