Get to Cape Leveque from Broome along 200 kilometres of unsealed road,four wheel drive vehicle is strongly recommended, allow three and a half hours and during the summer season the road can sometimes be closed to traffic.
The Dampier Peninsula offers limited facilites with unpowered camping sites and bush shelters for the self sufficiant traveller. There are several areas - including Middle Lagoon and Lombadina that offer simple cabin style accommodation. Camping fees apply. If you are looking for a little more luxury - there is an aborginal owned and operatored resort at the end of the Cape Leveque road.
Take a stroll on a secluded beach at Middle Lagoon, swim or go snorkelling in the sparkling waters. Call in and visit the Sacred Heart Church with its beautiful pearlshell altar, built by the Pallotine monks and the Aboriginal people of Beagle Bay in 1917.
Meet the locals and learn about remote community life staying at recently opened accommodation facilities at Mudnunn, Chile Creek and La Djardarr Bay. Go mud crabbing with a local guide. Chech out offshore delights on a boat charter or tours offered out of Cape Leveque or Lombadina – hire your own dinghy at Cape Leveque.
A visit to the Dampier Peninsula means entering Aboriginal land. As you travel however you are asked to respect the land, the culture and the privacy of local people where access is restricted. Please note medical facilities are limited.
The key to a rewarding visit to the Dampier Peninsula - is to be prepared. Fuel and stores can be purchased - however they are limited and only available at certain locations and times. Please note DOGS are not allowed and ALCOHOL cannot be purchased anywhere on the Peninsula. All accommodation is limited and should be booked well in advance.
