1. Cable Beach
This 22km stretch of white sandy beach is framed by calm turquoise waters, but the real magic happens at sunset. The sky lights up with fiery, yellows and oranges. An instagrammers’ dream post! Visit when the beach polo kicks up the sparkling sand and you will see horse riders and their dashing steeds play the sport of Kings with an ocean backdrop. Foodie shots more your style? In the polo marquee whip out your phone for that luxe champagne and canape image and be the envy of your followers. #wishyouwerehere.
The camels on Cable Beach are a Broome icon and a snap of the silhouetted camel train with a glowing sunset as a back drop will leave your followers wanting more. Want a birds eye view? Soar the clear skies on a scenic flight and capture from above where the camels’ shadows elegantly stretch tall across the sand. Or why not ride one of these long lashed, fuzzy fleeced creatures as they stroll the shoreline. Once the ride is complete, check with the tour leader and chances are you will be able to get up close and personal with your comically faced camel for the ultimate selfie.
3. Gantheaume Point
Stroll the short walking trail past the lighthouse and find yourself submersed in an otherworldly landscape. Sculptural red rocks stand tall against the burnished majestic stone cliffs rising above, and contrasting with, the bluest ocean you have ever seen. Red rocks + blue water = lots of likes!
4. Sun Pictures
More than a century old, and located in the centre of town, this open air cinema has Australian outback architecture written all over it. Its weathered tin façade has a wonderful patina that Instagrammers can’t get enough of. Its marquee lighting signage takes you back to a bygone era and captures the essence of old Broome, while inside you will find deckchairs under the stars and antiquated film projectors that will satisfy your inner film buff.
5. Streeters Jetty
Sure this gnarled wooden jetty has historical significance and was used in the late 1800s by pearling luggers to deposit pearl shell, but we are captivated by its charming sun bleached planks, surrounded by lush green mangrove and when in high tide, a blaze of blue water. Stroll, sit, snap!
Bonus! Staircase to the Moon
So this officially can’t be snapped by a phone camera (we’ve tried and the quality is not great) but if you have a ‘real’ camera, a tripod and a slow shutter speed, you can at low tide, capture the glowing orange moon’s optical illusion on the mudflats of Roebuck Bay. The bright stripes of light appear in the darkness to reach up to the moon in the sky. Upload to your phone and you will be an insta-star!
