Martumili is situated in Newman, establishing an international reputation for innovative and dynamic art. Artworks from emerging and established Martu artists depict their land and history, reflecting stories of their families and ancestors who lived, walked and gathered food across their homelands in the Great Sandy, Little Sandy and Gibson Deserts and Karlamilyi (Rudall River) areas of Western Australia.
Martumili Artists are based in the East Pilbara Arts Centre in Newman, with artists working in 6 other remote East Pilbara communities, many of whom experienced the first contact with Europeans in the 1960s.
