The Eco Abrolhos 13 Night Kimberley Cruise.
WHY OUR ITINERARY?
At Eco Abrolhos, all 8 of our annual Kimberley cruises are the same duration – 13 Nights – and for a very important reason.
For the Crew onboard the Eco, we pride ourselves on taking each and every guest on a complete Kimberley journey – starting at Broome and finishing at Darwin or visa-versa. By visiting the sights regularly, the experienced Eco crew know the hotspots, where’s safe to swim, where the wildlife live, the best fishing holes and what birds to see, etc.
Irrespective of which direction you decide to travel, there are highlights at each end.
The 13 night journeys are not just a random choice by The Eco Abrolhos. The trips are planned over 18 months in advance to correspond exactly with the tides and moon phases in the area at that time. 14 Day duration enables The Eco Abrolhos to start on a spring tide and finish 14 days later also on a spring tide. This planning is critical to give The Eco Abrolhos the largest tide height (and current assistance) to get into places like The Berkeley and King George Rivers and give our guests the maximum “Wow Factor” with the greatest tides at areas like The Horizontal Falls and Montgomery Reef, all of which are at the start or end of each expedition.
The neap tides (smaller tides) during the middle of the trip make for better fishing and crabbing opportunities in the central section and longer stops at the scenic areas like the swimming waterholes, Indigenous rock art sites and onshore hikes.
With a maximum of 11 metres (37ft) tides, timing is a critical factor everywhere we go in The Kimberley.
Each and every one of our 8 x 13 Night Kimberley Expeditions is planned like this.
This is a very important aspect when choosing which tour company you book with.
We’ve been doing it for years – and it works!!
We also promote an “Active Tour”.
For sure there are times when you can sit on the roof top 360 degree sun deck and enjoy the vista as we cruise along.
However, when the anchor goes down, its into the expedition tenders and off on extended tours.
Our 4 x 6m long tenders have a long range capacity enabling us to travel extended distances up rivers and gorges to see the most remote sites in comfort and safety.
Some of the activities include walks, treks to freshwater swimming holes, climbs up into caves with amazing Indigenous art sites, rim walks around the tops of the waterfalls, historical tours, pearl farm visits and lots more.
The Eco Abrolhos
The Eco Abrolhos is a 35m long catamaran that is 12m wide. It has 4 levels with a huge passenger to floor space ratio. Accommodation is for up to 32 guests in 17 twin share cabins, all with en-suites. It is the vessel that is used for The Kimberley 14 day tours.
There is a large dining and lounge area with a saloon bar and a top deck which supplies 360 degree views of The Kimberley. The deck has covered and open areas, a central bar and slide opening weather screens on 3 sides. This is also the place to sit on a stool and overlook the bow as the Eco travels along, whether it be whale and dolphin watching or passing the stunning rivers and rock formations of The Kimberley. Alternatively relax on the sun lounges with a book, enjoy alfresco dining, lie back on the couch and enjoy the surroundings or sip champagne at sunset whilst watching The Kimberley come alive with all its colour and glory!
