3 hour ‘Island Explorer’ cruise with stunning scenery and unique wildlife
Enjoy an expert commentary from the experienced tour guides and skippers including information about the history of the area, the Ord Irrigation Scheme, pioneering Durack Family and unforgiving rugged landscape. This cruise meanders across the northern reaches of Lake Argyle exploring the many bays and inlets that make this immense body of water so unique. Wallabies, Wallaroos, Fish Feeding, Birdlife and Freshwater Crocodiles are just part of the Lake Argyle Family whom you may meet. Stop at a remote island beach for a swim in the pristine waters while our crew prepare your buffet lunch.
Whilst providing informative commentary, the Skipper guides the specially designed vessel amongst numerous inlets and bays in search of local wildlife including Freshwater Crocodiles and their many nesting sites. The cruise continues out to Hagen island – the largest of more than 70 islands on Lake Argyle. Hagan Island is over 7 km long and is easily recognised by the landmark ‘Mount Misery’ towering over the now submerged site of the original Argyle Downs Homestead after which Lake Argyle is named. Heading west into the sunset this ancient land will mesmerize. We then stop for a refreshing swim in the tranquil waters of the ‘Bay of Islands’. As the sun sets we serve a cheese platter, dips and crackers with complimentary beer, wine and soft drink.
A network of bushwalks have been established adjacent to the Lake Argyle Village giving you the opportunity to experience the essence of the breathtaking scenery and local wildlife. We are constantly working on new bushwalking trails that explore the rugged landscape, spectacular vistas and surrounding attractions. Check in with the friendly staff at the village store for directions and “best time of day” details for bushwalking. Look out for the interesting wildlife you may see along the way. Birds, marsupials, reptiles, insects and maybe even an Echidna!
