Close to Lake Argyle, the Argyle Downs Homestead Museum is set in the original Durack family Argyle Downs Homestead, which was reconstructed stone by stone at its present site following the filling of Lake Argyle.
Visitors to the museum can walk through this historic building and small grounds, which offer a fascinating insight into the lives of the early pioneers in the Kimberley.
Displays illustrate the prominent farming family's two-year journey across the continent, travelling from their original home in Queensland all the way to Kununurra with 2,000 head of cattle to establish the first cattle station in the region, which grew to become a successful and productive business.
The Historic Durack Homestead Museum is operated by the Kununurra Visitor Centre.
