Cable Beach

With 22 kilometres of pristine white sand edged by the stunning turquoise water of the Indian Ocean, Broome’s Cable Beach attracts visitors from around Australia and the world.

Bounded by sand dunes and ochre red cliffs, Cable Beach is as nature intended, with the convenience of resorts and caravan parks close by. With months on end of perfect warm weather there is no better place to enjoy a beach holiday.

This white sandy beach offers many great beach activities. Uncrowded even in peak season between May and October, you can always find a quiet stretch of sparkling sand to lay down your towel or hire a deckchair and umbrella, and be lulled into relaxation as the waters gently lap the shoreline.  Broome has huge tidal movements and visiting the beach at low tide will provide you with a large expanse of sandy beach to enjoy.

If you are feeling active, try your hand at swimming, fishing, kayaking, surfing (when the swell is up), a beach stroll along the flat sands, or just relax and soak up some sunshine.

For a spectacular ocean sunset, Cable Beach will not disappoint. With colours ranging from purples and golds to fiery reds, the skies light up as the sun slowly sinks into the sea, providing picture perfect photo opportunities.

Cable Beach is famous the world over for its iconic camel rides. Sitting high astride a camel while it walks rhythmically in time with the camel train gives you a different perspective of this magical location.

Whether you want to relax or be active on your Broome holiday you can hire equipment including chairs, umbrellas, paddle boards and bicycles at Cable Beach.

Broome’s Dreamtime birthplace is in the coastal reserve, Minyirr Park, and on Cable Beach itself. Three colour coded trails wind their way through this coastal area, heading to the sea, through the bush and through the dunes. This is a beautiful area to walk in the early morning or late afternoon, with views along Cable Beach.

Cable Beach and Cable Beach Amphitheatre also plays host to a number of events throughout the year including the Shinju Matsuri Long Table Dinner, concerts and Cable Beach Polo.

Lifeguards are on duty at the beach from May to October and it is advisable to swim between the flags.

Toilets, showers and change facilities are located by the car park and main entrance at Cable Beach Road West. 

With nothing in Broome more than a 15 minute drive away from Cable Beach, you can hire a car, catch a taxi, ride the Town Bus or, if staying close by, walk to this popular natural attraction.

4WD Vehicles are permitted on Cable Beach in the area ‘north of the rocks’ – access is via the vehicle ramp at Cable Beach Road West, and cars must proceed past the rocks to the northern part of the beach. If you have a hire car, please check the conditions of hire as many hire companies do not allow their cars to drive on the beach. If you are planning to drive on the beach it is important to be aware of the tide times.
