King Cascade Falls on the Prince Regent River is a highlight on Kimberley cruise itineraries
Long drop waterfalls such as the King George Falls tower over the northern coast, while at Kings Cascades water tumbles over a terrace of Kimberley sandstone. At Punamii-Uunpuu (Mitchell Falls) the Mitchell River pours over four levels, where water falls from one mesmerising emerald water pool to the next.
Unique to the Kimberley Coast, the tidal movement at the Horizontal Falls (Garaanngaddim) creates a phenomenon where the waterfall appears in the water itself, and at Montgomery Reef the ebb and flow of the tides produce a twice daily waterfall show as the reef appears from the ocean.
Some of the more remote waterfalls are only accesible by cruise ship, but scenic flight options for the Horizontal Falls, Punamii-Uunpuu and Montgomery Reef mean that these locations are accessible for half-day to overnight tours.
Replenished by rains over the Wet Season, waterfalls along the Kimberley Coast are at their best during the early part of cruising season, starting in March each year.
