Kimberley Beaches & Islands
Kimberley beaches are truly in a class of their own. Here, a trip to the beach brings you to the pristine white sands of Broome’s 22-kilometre Cable Beach, the wide open coastal panoramas of Eighty Mile Beach, sunset reflections on the striking red rocks of the Dampier Peninsula, or the seemingly endless string of island beaches in the Buccaneer Archipelago.
Consistent warm weather also means you can enjoy the Kimberley coast and its fiery sunsets all year round. Best of all, vast stretches of the coastline don’t see many people at all, so you can really escape the crowds and spread your towel out on your very own Kimberley bay, beach or island.
The Dampier Peninsula is where ancient culture meets the coast, and where red rock meets white sand and turquoise waters, providing a stunning backdrop to your stay, as well as the many Indigenous, boating and pearling tours.
The Buccaneer Archipelago is made up of more than 1,000 rugged islands, with secluded beaches, lush rainforest, and pristine mangroves surrounded by a tropical sea.
How to get there:
Broome Beaches
Broome's beaches are within a ten-minute drive from the town centre. While Cable Beach draws people from all over the world, be sure to visit the lesser known Gantheaume Point, Reddell Beach and Town Beach – overlooking Roebuck Bay.
Dampier Peninsula
The Cape Leveque Road stretches 220 kilometres north of Broome on a partly unsealed road and a 4WD is recommended. You can pick up the Ardi Traveller's Guide to the Dampier Peninsula from Broome Visitor Centre, or join a 4WD or senic flight tour from Broome.
Kimberley Wilderness Coast
Cruise boats visit unspoiled and secluded beaches along the Kimberley coast as part of their itineraries, and a small number of coastal camps and resorts offer splendid isolation.
Buccaneer Archipelago
Derby is the closest point to the islands of the Buccaneer Archipelago, accessible by light aircraft or boat cruise.
