WHAT YOU CAN CATCH
Creek & Estuary Fishing
Slow-moving creeks, mangrove systems and tidal flats deliver some of the North West’s most iconic sport fishing — led by the legendary barramundi. These warm, tidal waters are also home to threadfin salmon and mangrove jack, making creek fishing one of the region’s most rewarding and accessible experiences.
Best enjoyed across Broome, Derby, Kununurra, Lake Kununurra and Lake Argyle, creek fishing can be done DIY or with experienced local guides.
Demersal Fishing
While parts of Western Australia’s coastline have restrictions on demersal fishing, recreational and charter demersal fishing remains available in Australia’s North West, making it a major drawcard for travelling anglers.
Target prized reef species such as red emperor, coral trout, bluebone, fingermark and rankin cod, with demersal fishing featuring heavily on offshore charters and expedition cruises around remote reefs, islands and coastal waters.
Pelagic Fishing
Fast, powerful and adrenaline-fuelled, pelagic fishing is a highlight offshore throughout the region.
Anglers can target species such as sailfish, marlin, Spanish mackerel and tuna, particularly from the coast and offshore islands, as well as along remote stretches of the Kimberley coastline.
DAY CHARTERS
Perfect for visitors short on time, day charters offer local knowledge, quality gear and access to prime fishing grounds across Broome, the Pilbara and the Kimberley.
Target iconic species like barramundi, threadfin salmon, mangrove jack, along with reef and pelagic favourites offshore.

Fishing Safely
• Be croc-wise near rivers, creeks and estuaries

• Carry safety gear and let someone know your plans
Fish for the Future
Australia’s North West supports responsible fishing practices to protect fish stocks for generations to come. Observe bag limits, size limits and seasonal closures, and release fish carefully where required.
Tides & Conditions
Tides play a critical role in fishing success across the region. Checking tide charts and local conditions will help plan the best time to fish — particularly in tidal creeks and coastal waters.
Whether you’re chasing barra in a Kimberley creek, dropping lines over reef systems offshore, or fishing remote waters during a Kimberley cruise — there’s a fishing experience for everyone in Australia’s North West.
