A quirky and fascinating museum showcasing Broome's enthralling local history. Learn of the town’s pearling history, the terrifying Air Raid attack on Broome during World War II, and the unique multicultural history of the town.

The museum building itself is a part of Broome's exciting past. Built as a general store in the late 1890s and owned by pearlers Newman & Goldstein. In 1910 the building operated as Customs and eventually became the Museum in 1981.

The Museum also includes the Sailmaker's Shed, built in 1897 to house Charles Bagge's sailmaking business and the Rae Val Annexe, formerly the mess hall for the employees of the Public Works Department when the Port of Broome was under construction.

The Broome Historical Museum is run by a dedicated group who volunteer their time to keeping the museum open 7 days a week.
