Ian Blair Memorial Walkway & Onslow Memorial Park
Ian Blair Memorial Boardwalk, Onslow, 6710
A 1km walkway from Beadon Point over the sand dunes to Sunset Beach in Onslow commemorates Ian Blair, a West Australian policeman.
Ian Blair was posted to Onslow in 1959 and lived there after retirement until his death in 1998. The walkway commemorates his contribution to the Onslow community. The Ian Blair Memorial Walkway trail map is available from Onslow Visitor Centre.
At the eastern end of the walkway, you’ll find the Onslow Memorial Park which features a spectacular sculpture based on the insignia of the ADF’s Rising Sun cap badge. It is positioned so that each Anzac Day, the rays of the rising sun shine directly through the arch. The memorial sculpture is the work of Charlie and Joan Smith, who also designed the HMAS Sydney Memorial in Geraldton.
