Kununurra Waterfalls
Stay a few days, connect with nature in Kununurra. The area around Kununurra is home to a number of beautiful waterfalls and swimming holes, some seasonal, some spring-fed. Take a short drive to easily accessible Molly Springs, the Grotto or Black Rock Falls. Other waterfalls require a hike to reach them, still others are accessible only by helicopter or boat.
Achievable as day trips, you will be captivated by the tranquillity and splendour of the majestic scenery in the East Kimberley and its many waterfalls that are particularly prevalent around February and March - weather dependent.
Take a cruise on the Ord River and view waterfalls tumbling off the Carr Boyd Ranges. Visit Lake Argyle during the wet and see if Homestead Creek is sending its bounty over the falls into the lake. Take a scenic flight over Revolver Falls, a spectacular but remote waterfall on the edge of Lake Argyle. Visit Molly Springs in the newly created Ngamawolem Nature Reserve. Seek out picturesque waterfalls at The Grotto, Blackrock and Valentine Springs.
Legend suggests some of the spring-fed pools around Kununurra are renowned for their fertility powers, publicly acknowledged by Australian actress Nicole Kidman who spent time in the region during the filming of the movie 'Australia'.
Drive: Kununurra is located in the East Kimberley accessible by plane via the Gibb River Road, the Great Northern Highway or the Victoria Highway. Homestead Creek, The Grotto, Blackrock, Molly Springs and Valentine Springs are all accessible by 4WD from Kununurra. Some waterfalls are spring fed and can be seen year round while others are seasonal and are dependent on rainfall in the wet season.
Fly: There are direct flights to Kununurra from Perth, Darwin and Broome. Revolver Falls can be seen via scenic flight.
