Three days in Broome
Broome offers a first taste of the Kimberley’s coastal beauty, where wide beaches, tidal waters and rich cultural history come together in a laid-back tropical setting.
This 3-day itinerary is designed to capture the essence of Broome for first-time visitors, combining its most iconic experiences with time to slow down and enjoy the rhythm of the town. From sunset on Cable Beach to exploring the heritage of Chinatown and choosing a memorable day trip into the surrounding region, it’s an easy introduction to life on the edge of the Kimberley.
Day 1
Ease into Broome with a morning at Cable Beach, where 22 kilometres of white sand meet the turquoise Indian Ocean. The beach is well set up for visitors, with facilities available at the nearby Broome Beach Hut - perfect for a swim, a coffee, or simply settling into the day.
Recent upgrades are making a day at the beach even more comfortable and enjoyable, with improved access, enhanced foreshore spaces and new family-friendly areas that make it easier to stay longer and unwind.
As the day warms, the pace slows naturally. Spend time by the pool at your resort or caravan park, or simply enjoy in the laid-back atmosphere that defines Broome’s coastal lifestyle.
As the afternoon unfolds, consider getting out on the water for a sunset or wildlife cruise along Roebuck Bay or the coastline. Experiences range from relaxed wildlife watching and fishing charters to guided coastal tours that reveal marine life and ancient shoreline features, including dinosaur footprints preserved in the intertidal zone. It’s a relaxed way to experience Broome from a different perspective, as the tides shift and birdlife moves across the shallows.
As the day draws to a close, head back to Cable Beach for one of Broome’s most iconic experiences—a camel ride along the shoreline. As the sun drops toward the horizon, the camels move in silhouette across the sand, creating one of the most recognisable sunset scenes in Australia. Even if you’re watching from the beach, it’s a moment that captures Broome’s character perfectly.
For dinner, you’ll find plenty of relaxed options both around Cable Beach and in Chinatown, from oceanfront dining to laid-back town eateries—making it easy to end the day wherever suits your mood.
Day 2
Today is about getting to know Broome itself—a town that is compact, easy to navigate and rich in stories.
You can explore independently, or join a sightseeing tour to take in the key highlights in one easy loop. Broome’s main areas, Cable Beach, Town Beach and Chinatown, are small enough to move between comfortably, each offering a different experience.
In Chinatown, heritage buildings, pearl showrooms and shaded streets reflect Broome’s pearling past. A visit to Pearl Luggers brings that history to life, offering insight into the crews and vessels that once worked these waters.
Head out to Guwarri Town Beach and the surrounding Roebuck Bay foreshore. This is Broome’s more local coastal setting, where the tides stretch wide across the mangroves and birdlife gathers on the flats. It’s also home to the Staircase to the Moon markets on selected dates, when the rising moon reflects across the tidal flats.
If you're visiting on neap tides, walk to the end of the jetty to see turtles swimming through the water, or plan your visit to catch the best time to cast a line.
While there, visit the Broome Historical Museum for a broader look at the town's story, from pearling and aviation, to wartime history and multicultural influences that still shape Broome today.
Get a taste of the Kimberley’s creativity in the afternoon while wandering through art and photography galleries, with the pearl showrooms along Dampier Terrace tempting many visitors with beautiful South Sea pearl jewellery.
As evening arrives, settle in at Sun Pictures - the world’s oldest operating outdoor cinema—where deckchairs, open skies and warm night air create a distinctly Broome experience.

Day 3
Today is about exploring more of the Kimberley from Broome, with a choice of experiences depending on your style of travel.
Take to the air on a scenic flight over the Buccaneer Archipelago and the iconic Horizontal Falls, where powerful tides surge through narrow coastal channels. Some experiences combine flight and boat access, while others focus purely on the scale and patterns of the coastline from above.
If you prefer to stay grounded, head north on a guided 4WD tour or self-drive journey along the Dampier Peninsula, where red pindan cliffs, turquoise waters and remote communities offer a different perspective of the region.
For something slower, visit Willie Creek Pearls to learn how South Sea pearls are cultivated in these waters, continuing Broome’s long connection to the pearling industry.
Return to town in the late afternoon for a final Broome sunset and a relaxed evening by the water.
